Loose bracket

The most common cause of a loose bracket is eating foods that are too hard or sticky. Regardless of how the bracket came loose, please call our office as soon as possible during normal business hours to schedule a repair.

Broken or poking wire

If a broken wire can be easily accessed, try to remove the broken piece. Occasionally, as the teeth move, the wire can begin to protrude out the back poking the cheek. Place wax on the area, and in either of these cases contact our office during normal business hours to schedule a quick repair.

Tooth soreness

Mild soreness may occur at varying times throughout treatment. Sticking to soft foods will help to minimize this, as will a dose of an over-the-counter pain reliever such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. You may also use a warm salt water rinse. The tenderness is normal and should pass in a few days.

Traumatic accidents

Use ice immediately to reduce swelling. If the teeth are fractured, displaced, or have been knocked out, call your general dentist immediately. if there are repairs that need to be made to the braces (broken brackets, bent wires, etc.), please call our office to schedule a repair.

Soft tissue impingement

Wax over the irritated area to make yourself comfortable, and call our office during normal business hours to schedule an appointment.

Loose teeth

As the teeth move, they may become mobile. This is normal and will resolve once they are in the correct position.

Lost separators

If the separator falls out more then 1 day before your appointment, please call our office to schedule a replacement.

Irritated cheeks, lips or tongue

Brackets may irritate soft tissues initlally until the tissue toughens (as hands callous). Soft wax will ease the discomfort, as does a warm salt water rinse.

Open door on your bracket

If a door is open on your bracket, place wax over the irritation and call our office to schedule to have it closed.

Loose CB1

If your CBJ becomes loose, be sure to continue to keep the area well brushed and clean. Call our office during normal business hours to schedule a repair.
